FAQ
Questions people actually ask.
Ordering, files, turnaround, and what happens when something is wrong. If yours is not here, the contact form gets to a person.
How long does an order take?
Four business days on the press for most products, and then shipping on top of that. If you upload your own file, I send it to press the business day after you order, and the four days start then. If we are designing it, they start the business day after you approve the proof. If something is for a particular Sunday, count backwards from that Sunday, add the shipping days, and then leave yourself a few days of slack. Everyone who has ever cut it fine has a story about the box that arrived Monday.
What does shipping cost?
It is charged separately, and you see the cost in the cart before you pay. It goes by the size of the box, so a few hundred cards ship for less than a few thousand. Ground costs the least, and 3 Day, 2 Day and Next Day are there if you need them. Those are days in transit once the order is printed, so a faster service does not shorten the four business days on press.
What file do you need from me?
A print-ready PDF is best: 300 dpi at final size, CMYK, fonts embedded or outlined, everything flattened, and the artwork built on our template so the trim and the bleed are where the press expects them. JPG and TIFF work too if they are 300 dpi at the size they will print. There is a fuller explanation, and every template we have, on the resources page.
Do you have templates?
One for every product that takes your artwork. They are on each product page under the Templates tab, and they are all collected on the resources page. Building on the template is the single easiest way to avoid a file problem.
Can people write on them?
On uncoated stock, yes. On coated stock, a ballpoint will skate and a gel pen will smear. That is why connection cards are uncoated and why guest info cards, which nobody writes on, are matte coated. If people need to write on it, order the uncoated one.
What if I do not have artwork?
We can design it. The design-and-print products include an original design and two rounds of changes, and the design side usually takes two or three days before anything goes to press. A further round of changes is $50. Logo design is not part of that, so if you need a logo first, ask us about it separately.
Do you keep my files?
Yes. Once we have printed something for you we keep the artwork at the right size. If we designed it, choose Reprint or Reprint with changes when you order again and there is nothing to send. If you sent us the file, upload it again with the new order so it is checked again, and if you no longer have it, send me the old order number and I will send it back.
Can I just reorder what we printed last time?
Order it again in the shop, and pay at checkout like any other order. Upload the file again, and it is checked again before it goes to press. If you no longer have the file, send the old order number through the contact form and I will send it back to you. If something on it needs to change, a date, a service time, a phone number, say so and we will sort out whether it is an edit or a new file.
How do I pay?
By card at checkout. There is no invoice to chase afterwards.
Do you charge sales tax?
Yes, where it applies. It is worked out from the address we ship to, and you see it on the checkout page before you pay.
A tax-exempt church needs an account with us, with its certificate approved, before it places the order. The exemption belongs to the account, so an order placed without logging in, or before the certificate is approved, is charged sales tax like any other order. Creating an account at checkout does not change that order either, because the certificate still has to be checked first. If your church has already paid sales tax on an order it placed that way, reply to the email we sent when you placed the order and I will look at it and tell you what I can do.
To set it up, register on the Your account page with your church’s email address, and you will get an email with a link to set your password. Log in, open the Tax exemption tab, enter your church’s name and the Colorado certificate number (it starts with 98), and upload a copy of the certificate. I check each one myself, usually within one business day. Once it is approved, log in before you check out, tick the box at checkout that says the order is tax-exempt and paid with your church’s own funds, and the tax comes off.
Can I get it faster than four days?
Sometimes, for a surcharge. Faster production has to be bought at the time the job is placed, so it cannot be added once the order is in. If you are against a date, ask before you order and we will price it for you.
What are the smallest runs?
It depends on the product. Giving envelopes and door hangers start at 100. Most cards, bookmarks and invite cards start at 250. The deluxe business cards and postcards start at 1000, which is where that stock gets cheap enough to be worth printing.
Do you print things that are not in the store?
Often, yes. The store carries what small churches order over and over, priced so nobody has to ask. For anything else, including signage and anything unusual, use the quote form and tell us what you are trying to do.
What if something arrives wrong?
Tell us within three business days, with photographs, using the link in your shipping email, and if the printing is at fault we reprint it at no charge. The details, including what counts as a print defect and what does not, are on the reprints and refunds page.
Still not answered?
The contact form goes to a person, not a queue, and questions about a job you are about to order get answered first.
